How we measure this

These averages come from our own daily readings of every provider's published product data, not from a survey and not from lender submissions. A category's average is taken over every product we track in it, at the headline advertised rate shown on its card, so a figure here agrees with the tables elsewhere on the site. A product counts once however many rates it publishes. Home loans are averaged over owner-occupier loans at their variable principal and interest rate: fixed rates, interest-only rates and investment loans are separate markets with their own rates, and an average across them would describe none of them.

The "vs cash rate" column is the gap between a market's average and the RBA cash rate, in percentage points. It is the figure that says how much of a rate is the lender rather than the market: a positive number is what borrowers pay above the cash rate, a negative one is what savers earn below it.

We report a change only where the average moved by at least 0.02 percentage points between 12 and 19 October 2026. Anything smaller sits inside the movement created by products entering and leaving the market, so calling it a rate move would be reading a trend into noise. See the Rate Tracker for the full series behind each figure.
