About CompareThat
Comparison, minus the runaround.
CompareThat exists for a simple reason: comparing financial and household products in Australia is harder than it should be. Most of us suspect we are overpaying on something (a home loan, a credit card, an energy plan), but actually finding the better option means wading through fine print, sales pitches and tables that seem built to nudge you toward whoever paid the most.
We think that is backwards. CompareThat puts the comparison back into comparison: clear, honest, side-by-side information that helps you make the decision that is right for you, not for us.
Why we built it
CompareThat was started by someone who spent more than a decade inside Australia’s comparison and digital media industry, and came away wanting to do it better.
Over those years in performance and partnership marketing, our founder Josh worked within some of the businesses behind Australia’s best-known financial comparison brands, including the group that runs savings.com.au, yourmortgage.com.au and infochoice.com.au. That meant getting close to how these sites really work: how products get ranked, how comparison tables are designed, and the difference between a table that helps a reader and one that quietly steers them.
A lot of that work was about testing how people actually use comparison pages, learning what makes a result genuinely clearer rather than just busier. CompareThat is the chance to build a site from the ground up around those lessons: less clutter, fewer dark patterns, and comparisons that respect your time and your intelligence.
What we stand for
Clarity first. If a comparison is not easy to understand at a glance, we have not done our job. We cut the jargon and surface what actually matters.
Honest by default. We are upfront about how CompareThat works and how we make money. You should never have to guess whether a result is there because it is good or because someone paid for it.
Built on real data. Every choice on the site, from how results are ordered to how a page is laid out, is informed by evidence about what genuinely helps people decide, not guesswork.
Proudly Australian. CompareThat is made in Australia, for Australians, with local products and local context in mind.
Behind the site
CompareThat is founder-led and owner-operated. Josh is a Brisbane-based digital marketer with 14+ years across performance marketing, partnership marketing and the comparison industry, and a hands-on streak that runs through everything he builds, from the systems behind the scenes to the site you are reading now.
Got feedback, a product we should add, or a better deal we have missed? We would love to hear from you at info@comparethat.com.au. The whole point of CompareThat is to be genuinely useful, and the best way to stay that way is to hear from the people using it.
